Graduation Cap Gift Boxes

BY SPRINKLE CHEERFULNESS

I love crafting because I get to create unique gifts for my loved ones.

Since graduation season is soon upon us, I couldn't think of anything better than creating a miniature graduation cap that serves as a gift box. Depending on the size of the gift box, you can add candy, a gift card, jewelry or the keys to a new car for your grad!

You can take it a step further and add vinyl to personalize it with their name and year of graduation!

Supplies:

  • Astrodesigns Cardstock Pack: Bloom and Blossom

  • Cutting Machine: Cricut or Silhouette

  • Scoring Tool For Your Cutting Machine (it makes folding your project super easy)

  • Paper Adhesive: Craft Glue, Tape Runner, or Hot Glue Gun

  • SVG Template

  • Vinyl (optional)

  • Curved Fine Tip Tweezer (optional: only if you want to make the tassel)

Step 1: Upload the SVG to your Cricut Design Space or cutting machine program. After you adjust the template to the size you like your project to be, add your cardstock to your mat.  Send your project to be cut and scored. The Cricut setting I use is Cardstock+.

The Bloom and Blossom Cardstock Pack is 12 in x 12 in, which is awesome because I can make my graduation boxes in a larger size or fit two small ones in each cardstock page.

Step 2: When you unload your mat, turn your mat over and use your fingers to keep your cardstock flat on your work surface and bend the mat away. This will prevent your cardstock from curling up.

Step 3: After you take all your pieces off your mat, start folding every piece that has the score line. This will make assembling the project way easier.

Step 4: We will start assembling the box by adding glue on the trapezoid shaped folds and gluing them around the hexagon piece that's in the middle. You will repeat the same steps for both the lid and the bottom portion of the box.

Step 5: Glue the single, hexagon piece to the bottom part of the box (not to the lid portion).

Step 6: Let’s start making the tassel. Grab your curved tweezer and put it on one edge of the paper and start twisting it. When you are close to being done with twisting the paper, add glue and add the single, long strip of paper before you finish closing it (so that thin strip is enclosed inside with the fringe of your tassel).

Now just finish twisting and hold your piece with your fingers, pressing firmly for a few seconds.

Step 7: We are almost at the finish line. Grab your square piece that has a little circle in the middle. You are going to pass the end of your tassel through the circle and glue it to the square piece.

Next, glue the square to the top of the lid.

Step 8: Your last piece should be a small circle. Add a little bit of glue in the middle and add your circle.

Now you are officially done!!! Yay!! You did it!! But if you want to continue decorating, personalizing it you definitely can!
