Teaching With Turtles: Math Activities

Sometimes it can be hard finding the right learning activity to keep their minds stimulated, while providing the building blocks to their success. Themed activities are a great way to add color to the classroom and to increase retention.

Ten Turtles

First on the list is a math game aptly named “Ten Turtle”. It uses coins and a spinner to help young scholar add up to 10.  So, how does it work? In the image above the student landing on 9 and was would then place the coin on 1 because 9+1=10! This super easy DIY teaching resource makes learning exciting and new.

 

Twenty Turtle

Twenty Turtle is just like Ten Turtle, but to encourage team building this can be played with partners, to enhance the learning experience. Students now, have to add up to 20 based on the number they spin. Partners can take turns. In example above the spinner landed on 7, so the student would cover the 13. 7+13=20!
