My shimmery family birthstone bookmarks feature cheery paper gems that represent each family member and a cute matching paper tassel to save her place in her current read. Available in two sizes for all kinds of families, my family birthstone bookmarks are a quick and easy DIY gift to make for Mom.
Astrobrights® asked me to design a non-card paper craft for Mother’s Day. My mom is an avid reader, and family birthstone jewelry is a popular Mother’s Day gift, so I melded the two ideas together to create this unique family birthstone bookmark craft that you can make for all of your favorite moms.
I chose a cheerful Astrobrights® paper color to represent each birthstone month:

Have fun and be loose with this Mother’s Day craft. Choose birthstone colors for Mom, children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, step-children and grandchildren, spouses, whatever family members you wish, or even simply Mom’s favorite colors. There are no rules, just love for Mom!

Supplies:
- Kathy Beymer’s printable family birthstone bookmarks PDF editable template (I recommend editing in Adobe Reader rather than your web browser for best results)
- Astrobrights® Spectrum cardstock pack and Astrodesigns® Champagne Pearl™ Metallic Finish cardstock pack
- Scissors and optional craft knife, metal ruler, and self-healing mat
- Glue stick
- Double-sided tape
- ⅛” hole punch
- Embroidery floss or yarn
How to make Family Birthstone Bookmarks
Step 1: Download and open my birthstone bookmarks template. Choose the 2” x 6” bookmark template for 1-3 family members and my 2” x 8” bookmark template for 4-6 family members. To add any additional family members, you can always make reversible bookmarks that include birthstones on both sides.
Step 2: Add names to your gems. My bookmarks template is editable, which means you can type into the fields to personalize names. Alternatively, you can write family member names onto the paper with a pen. Open my template into Adobe Reader rather than a web browser (editable PDFs can be fussy in web browsers), type into the fields, and print onto either shimmery Champagne Pearl™ Metallic Finish cardstock paper or your mom’s birthstone color.
Step 3: Print gems onto the Astrobrights® paper that matches your chosen birthstone colors and cut out a gem for each family member. Glue gems onto the bookmark. Add your mom’s birthstone color to the O in MOM. You can use any extra gems to decorate the backs of the bookmarks or embellish wrapping paper and envelopes.
Step 4: Make cute paper tassels by cutting out my tassel template. Using good scissors, cut very thin strips on the long edge, leaving ¼” uncut along the edge. Affix strong double-sided tape to the uncut edge and peel back the tape to expose the adhesive. Fold an 8” piece of embroidery floss in half and place the cut edges onto the right edge of the sticky tape. Tightly roll the tassel, capturing the floss inside.
Step 5: Punch a hole into your bookmark using a ⅛” hole punch. Tie the paper tassel to your birthstone bookmark and give it to Mom!
