Mini pinatas easy to make from a paper plate and are such fun, unique favors for any gathering! Keep reading for our tutorial on making adorable mini–DIY Bunny Pinatas for Easter!
How do you make a simple small piñata?
Making mini pinatas has been a favorite party staple for us over the years (we’ve made them as pizzas, rainbows, fruit, and more!) because anything in mini form is instantly the cutest, and they always delight partygoers. We always use a paper plate as the base because it is simple and sturdy, and when you cut them in half and attach the halves together, they make a perfect pocket for holding treats! Plus, mini pinatas are an accessible project that is great for little hands–they can easily construct and design their pinatas using scissors and glue that are age appropriate.
For our past pinata projects we’ve used tissue paper to cover the outside of the plates, but when we got our hands on the perfect spring colors in the Astrobrights® Playful Cardstock, we had no choice but to change things up and we are thrilled we did! The results were adorable, and the application was a piece of cake! Plus, those colors! So yummy.
What to put in an Easter Pinata?
The great thing about making a pinata for Easter is that the options for filling them are endless. We went with your standard chocolate eggs for ours, but with all of the adorable spring candy on the shelves, the hardest part will be choosing between all of the available pastel-colored confections. I also love the idea of using them as part of an Easter egg hunt/scavenger hunt. You could fill them with clues or use them as the big prize at the end. You could also fill them with messages or treats that are aligned with the religious aspects of the holiday, if you celebrate them!
Supplies Needed to Make a DIY Bunny Piñata for Easter
How to Make a DIY Bunny Pinata for Easter
Step 1: Using scissors, cut paper plates in half.
Step 2: Place a line of hot glue on the rounded edge of one of the paper plates and press it against the same matching side of the other half of the plate to connect. This should create a half circle with a pocket in the middle.
Step 3: Fill the pocket of the piñata with confetti, candy, etc.
Step 4: Glue a sheet of paper over the pocket to close it using glue. Use scissors to remove excess paper.
Step 5: Cut paper into 1-inch strips, then cut ¼-inch-deep lines snips into the strips, lengthwise, to create fringe.
Step 6: Starting at the curved end of the piñata and working toward the top, glue the fringe strips onto the plate. Continue until the paper plate is completely covered with fringe.
Step 7: Once the piñata is fully covered, cut around the exterior of the pinata to shape the bunny face and remove excess strips.
Step 8: Use scissors to cut out the ears, and details for the face. Then, apply each detail to the piñatas using glue.
That’s it! Aren’t they adorable? They’re sure to make your holiday extra “hoppy”!
Happy Making!
